Energy Watch is committed to best privacy practice. We will adhere to our obligations under relevant privacy legislation including the Privacy Act 1988.

What personal information do we collect?

Energy Watch will only collect information that is related to assessing your energy usage, distributor costs in order to quote you, and when applicable we will collect information required by our preferred electricity providers.

The types of personal information that we may collect include:

  • identifying and contact information, such as name, date of birth, residential address, email address, phone numbers and drivers license number
  • a voice recording of your verification of the terms and conditions of a plan we offer to you

This relevant collected information, is passed on securely to the retailer we recommended you to, in order to process your electricity/gas move in or service switch request.

We collect the personal information that you give us through our website, during phone calls, or from relevant written or faxed correspondence.

Why do we collect your personal information?

We collect personal information in order to understand and meet our customers (and potential customers) needs, to conduct our related business activities and meet our legal obligations. It is your right not to give us any information. However, if you choose not to give us the personal information we request, we may not be able to provide you with our service or suggest a electricity/gas plan from our preferred retailers that best suits your needs.

How might we use your personal information?

Generally, we use your personal information to:

  • Contact you by telephone when requested by you through our website (Energy Watch respects the federal DNCR. By requesting a quote from Energy Watch you provide your explicit informed consent to be contacted by one of our sales consultants)
  • Provide our services and recommend one of our retailers that best suits your needs
  • Manage our relationship with you the customer
  • Comply with all applicable laws
  • To conduct promotions and giveaways (If you do not want to receive or be involved in these activities you can withdraw your consent by contacting us at enquiries@energywatch.com.au or by calling 1300 855 604)
  • Perform other related functions and activities (these may change from time to time)

Your information will only be disclosed to a Preferred Retailer in the event that:

  • You request to switch your electricity/gas through Energy Watch.
  • You request a ‘move in’ (new power connection) to a property through Energy Watch.

This information is disclosed solely for the purpose of processing your electricity order. In some circumstances, you may be contacted directly by the preferred retailer for the purpose of confirming information about your electricity/gas order.

For the purposes of the Do Not Call Register Act 2006 (if it applies) - by submitting your telephone number to Energy Watch Pty Ltd, you give your consent to Energy Watch Pty Ltd contacting you by telephone on that number. Electronic communications and website access and security

Our website is professionally hosted and operates in a secure environment. While we take all reasonable care to protect your personal information once it is received. We cannot guarantee that information sent and received over the Internet is 100% secure. Sending and receiving information over the Energy Watch website is therefore at the users own risk.

When you register with our service, it will send a cookie to your computer. This is a small piece of information stored on your hard drive which tells us that your computer has accessed our website. Cookies, which are industry standard and are used by many commercial web sites, including those operated by us, can facilitate a user's ongoing access to and use of a site. They allow us to customise the web site to your needs. If you do not want information collected through the use of cookies, there is a simple procedure in most browsers that allow you to deny or accept the cookie feature. But you should note that cookies may be necessary to provide you with some features of our on-line services. In addition, we collect aggregated non-personally identifiable data from our website to help us maintain and improve delivery of the Energy Watch online service and marketing. This aggregated information assists Energy Watch to improve content and website navigation. Like a number of commercial web site operators, Energy Watch use Google Analytics to measure and analyse internet usage across our web sites. Google Analytics is regarded as a leader in the internet industry in interactive measurement technologies and market research. We use these services to collect the following core information on the usage of our web sites, including:

  • The number of page views (or page impressions) that occur on our web sites
  • The number of unique browsers to our web sites
  • How long these unique browsers (on average) spend on our web sites when they do visit
  • Common entry and exit points into our web sites

This aggregate, non-personal information is not accessible by any other party. All pages on our web sites are coded with Google Analytic tracking. This enables Energy Watch to track the number of unique browsers to our web sites. This information is collected and aggregated and in no way does this identify a user personally. We do not and will not marry any data collected with any personal information collected on our web sites. Energy Watch fulfils its obligations under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) at all times. We will not send you any unsolicited commercial electronic messages without your consent. Energy Watch will not use address-harvesting software under any circumstances.

From time to time, we may send you marketing materials via electronic communication such as email or text message. If you wish to withdraw your consent for us to do this, please contact us at enquiries@energywatch.com.au.

You can unsubscribe from any Energy Watch mailing list to which you have subscribed, at any time. To unsubscribe, simply email us at enquiries@energywatch.com.au and advise us of your wish to unsubscribe. Otherwise, call 1300 855 604 and we will arrange for your details to be removed. Alternately, click the ‘unsubscribe’ link located at the bottom of our marketing communication emails.

Disclosure of personal information to third parties

Any personal information we collect can be used for what is called a secondary purpose, meaning a purpose other than the original one. For example, we may use the information you have already given us to provide you with information about our other services or promotions that we are conducting. We would only use or disclose this information in such a situation if you would reasonably expect us to do so, or if we have your permission.

We may disclose your personal information to third parties where this is necessary to conduct our activities, these third parties may include:

  • Our preferred Energy Retailers
  • Our professional advisers when necessary – e.g. Energy Watch’s legal advisers relevant government authorities – e.g. the Essential Services Commission
  • Other parties to whom we are authorised or required by law to disclose information

Energy Watch has requested that its preferred energy retailers maintain the privacy of any personal information we provide to them.. The promotions that we conduct for the benefit of our customers frequently involve third party prize suppliers and related parties. In order for these third parties to participate in these promotions it may be necessary for us to disclose your personal information to them. You can let us know that you do not wish for this to occur at any time by contacting us.

Access to personal information

We have put in place safeguards to protect the personal information we hold from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Energy Watch takes reasonable steps to ensure that the information we hold about you is accurate when we use it or disclose it. You should contact us if you think your personal information is incorrect or if you want to remove, update or access your personal information.

A request for access needs to include a full description of the personal information requested. If making a request in person, you will be asked for two forms of identification, one of which must have a photograph on it. If you request information over the phone, we will ask you identity- related questions so we can verify you. Your request for privacy information will be documented, as will details of the request and the identity of the person who gave it to you. You will not be charged for accessing your information.
